FUTA protest surpasses 40th day with lecturers taken to the streets

The debacle in the countries education sector came under discussion at  various fora today.

3 Demonstrations were organised in connection to the university teachers issue which has surpassed more than 40 days.

University lecturers attached to the Kelaniya University engaged in a silent protest before the university today.

Chairman of the Federation of University Teachers Association Senior Professor Kulasena Widanagama speaking during the protest noted that the countries education system was collapsing.



Moreover a demonstration was also observed before the Ruhunu University today.

Deputy Chairman of the FUTA Upul Abeyrathna speaking here noted that the government was engaged in paralysing the countries university system.

A similar protest was also held before the University of Peradeniya today.

Deputy Chairman of the Peradeniya University’s Lecturers Guild Professor Ananda Jayawickrama expressing his views noted that the government was truncating funds allocated for education.

Meanwhile the Inter Bikkhu Balamanda had organised a protest march in Colombo demanding that the government immediately resolves the grievances of the University lecturers & students.
