President reviews developments in the Galle District

The progress review meeting of the Galle district was held Monday morning (13) under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapakse at the Hall de Galle auditorium. The meeting discussed about the progress of the on going projects, projects being planned and problems related to current projects.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the meeting reiterated not to lay foundation stones here onwards if adequate funding is not available to complete those development projects.  Banners and notices, if required could be displayed to communicate commencement of development projects but not foundation stones emphasised the President. He also instructed Ministry Secretaries to ensure that the above is carried out in a practicable manner throughout the country.

During the meeting future plans with regard to development activites, progress of current development activities as well as areas of education, agriculture, health, electricity, water resources and irrigation were discussed. President also brought to the attention some closed down buildings within the distrcit and instructed to make use of the buildings for a viable purpose.

He urged politicians of the district to set petty political differences aside and work in unity to fulfill people’s aspirations and needs. The President said it is the responsibility of politicians and state officials to make best use of public funds for numerous development activities.

Similar meetings were held earlier in the Districts of Badulla, Moneragala and Kurunegala.  

Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Bandula Gunewardene, Kumara Welgama, Piyasena Gamage, Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody,MPs Nishantha Mutuhettigama, Sajin Vass Gunewardene, Manusha Nanayakkara, Mohan P Silva, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Southern Chief Minister Shan Wijeyalal de Silva, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge, Ministry Secretaries, other politicians and state officials participated.
