Sixteen Service Entry candidates commissioned at NMA

Sixteen (16) Service Entry candidates belonging to Executive, Electrical, Engineering, Marine Engineering, Supply, Medical, Shipwright and Patrolman branches who joined the Naval & Maritime Academy on 05th October 2011 and underwent strenuous 39 weeks of hard training, had their commissioning parade at the Naval & Maritime Academy (NMA) main parade ground at Trincomalee in the morning on 11th August 2012.
The Chief Guest, Director General Civil Engineering Rear Admiral WS Jayasinghe took the salute and inspected the Guard of Honour and newly commissioned officers at the colourful parade. Deputy Area Commander of the Eastern Naval Area, Commodore DMS Dissanayake, Commandant of the NMA, Commodore USR Perera, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters, all senior naval officers of the Eastern Naval Command including the Fleet, spouses, parents and well wishers were also present on the magnificent occasion.

The Naval & Maritime Academy was commissioned in 1967 and was awarded the President’s colours in 2003 in recognition of the outstanding service rendered over 45 years to the Nation by producing naval personnel of highest standards. Further, it was granted the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification by the Sri Lanka Standard Institution. The NMA, considered as the most prestigious training institute, caters to the needs of SLN, training naval officers and providing advanced training to sailors.

The Passing Out parade was held in keeping with age-old customs and traditions of the Sri Lanka Navy. The newly commissioned officers marched in a splendid manner, attired in ceremonial naval uniforms. EA IV DK Weerasinghe (AL 44433) was selected as the best Service Entry Candidate of the batch.
