SL Deence Secretary pays homage to 'Jade Buddha'

Secretary Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa paid homage to the Jade Buddha at the BMICH, Colombo on Monday (13).
The Secretary also attended a special 'Wishwa Shanthi Pooja' held to usher in world peace. The Jade Buddha was created by two sculptors in Australia and Thailand and was exhibited around the world before being brought to the Island.
The Buddha statue made of the Jade gemstone is being exhibited at the BMICH from August 10th to 19th. The statue, exhibited under the theme 'Jade Buddha' for Universal Peace is 2.5 metres (8 feet) high and weighs around 4 tons.

The Presidential Secretariat jointly with the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC) had made arrangements to bring the statue to the country for exposition. Religious observances were conducted by the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Sariputhra Viharaya,Narahanpita Ven Nanda thero.

Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, Commanders of the tri forces, Director General of the Civil Defence Department, Director General of the Media Center for National Security, senior military and government officials and a large number of devotees were present at the occasion.
